Pusat CARE KK started in 2013 upon the firm belief that special attention must be given to East Malaysia where majority of the country’s poor are concentrated.  Almost immediately, we embarked on a financial literacy project for economic empowerment. Subsequently, our special education work also began to grow. We set up office in Kota Kinabalu in 2014 and this unit is now fully staffed with 4 dynamic young individuals in love with the kampung life, sharing life and hope with the rural poor in East Malaysia.

2015
By 2015, we have trained 8 classrooms of pastors-to-be in Community Development and Financial Literacy, helped set up a special needs toy library, trained 98 preschool teachers in inclusive education and followed up on numerous inclusive education projects. Our partners include churches from BCCM, SIB, PCS, and the Anglican Church; NGOs World Vision and Pusat Kebajikan Good Shepherd. Last year also saw us providing Financial Literacy training to a low-cost flat community in Kinarut.
2016 and beyond
Our goal remains as community transformation through education and economic empowerment. We anticipate deeper engagement with churches and rural communities through financial inclusion programmes, starting of small businesses, setting up networks and co-operatives, registering and promoting profitable preschools, training of rural preschool teachers and sustainable agriculture. More space is also being created for youth and young working adults to invest in poverty alleviation efforts and advocate for the poor on social media.
